Taps

Monday, May 28th, 2007

My sister emailed me this forever ago. I guess today’s a good day to post it:

Day is done, gone the sun,
From the lake, from the hills, from the sky;
All is well, safely rest, God is nigh.

Fading light, dims the sight,
And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright.
From afar, drawing nigh, falls the night.

Thanks and praise, for our days,
‘Neath the sun, ‘neath the stars, neath the sky;
As we go, this we know, God is nigh.

Sun has set, shadows come,
Time has fled, Scouts must go to their beds
Always true to the promise that they made.

While the light fades from sight,
And the stars gleaming rays softly send,
To thy hands we our souls, Lord, commend.

AUTH

Monday, May 28th, 2007

Well, about 4 hours later, I figured it out.

POP and SMTP AUTH?

Are you kidding me? This isn’t Fort Knox. This is Cox email. Do you really need to authenticate POP and SMTP?

I barely knew what I was doing, so I kinda patched two scripts together. I think it’s working…

I download Ubuntu Server Edition, 32 bit and all.

I wipe out my winxp partition. No big loss – secondary computer.

I install Ubuntu LAMP server – it’s actually an install option. Kinda weird and neat.

Install takes a while, but I’m in no hurry. It’s a 200MHz / 64MB RAM powerhouse, after all.

Won’t boot. Grrr. I don’t want to try Fedora or SuSE considering the relatively small HDD (although there are two, totaling less than 5GB combined, I think.)

Oh, well. Better luck next time.

Unbelievable. What a game.

The Twins broadcasters were all over the Texas Rangers yesterday. I don’t know why – the Rangers have been terrible as far back as I can remember, even when they had I-Rod and A-Rod and Co. Get over it.

“Hey, we’re trying to find a bridge to jump off. Can you help up find a low one?”

-Caller to the Sludge and Lake show.

The Portland Jail Blazers won the NBA lottery. Both had even odds. (lol – that sounds funny.)

Timberwolves lost.

We should be used to it by now.

In other news, the Wings are losing and the Spurs are winning.

Sheeze.

Can I buy a vowel or something?

From my sister’s blog: The Melodies are leaving today and returning Monday.

Returning? That would be sooo weird. Man, we left, and we were gone like Lewis and Clark. Too bad for them.

Pastor Clear talked about VBT today:

“You’re going to be tired; it’s going to be hot…”

I wanted to raise my hand and say, “If any of ya’ll think it’s going to be hot, I volunteer you for the dunk tank” (I call it the shark tank). It’s plenty “cool” in there.” As a matter of fact, sometimes it’s positively freezing.

And it was youth night: Dustin and Taniya (spell? yeah, I know she’s my cousin; sorry if I misspelled it) sang tonight. Sounded pretty good.

I think that’s all…

Oh, and PHPBB3 RC (Release Candidate) 1 was finally released… about two years late, it seems. However, it is free, and it is good, and I’ve done nothing to actually help the project (doubt that I could), so I’ll not complain.

notes

Baseball: Twins won again, having won their past twelve interleague games. AL totally over the NL. (AFC over NFC; I’m not sure about East/West in NBA or NHL. I would guess West in both.)

Hockey: Maxim Afinogenov scored in the third to tie it up, but Daniel Afredsson won it in OT for the Senators.

Horse Racing: No triple crown this year as Curlin chased down Street Sense in the last few strides to take the race by a nose.

And I got to work today. Cheers.

we’re comming

Saturday, May 19th, 2007

A year ago, the Twins were having a mediocre season until interleague play started. Then they went 16-2 and never looked back. Yesterday, to start off interleague play the Twins stomped on the Brewers 8-1, who were doing very well at home and lead the NL Central.

We’re coming, we’re coming…
