burn

Thursday, December 28th, 2006

i burned myself at work yesterday. it’s been a while since i’ve done that.

i think i’ve been on the dock for 4 weeks now. i shrink-wrap at least 10 pallets every day.

the first day on the dock, myron (the supervisor) asked me if i wanted a different pair of gloves. the ones i had were cut-resistant, but dock workers don’t use knives (well, except for fast eddie, who gypped mine.) i said, “no, these are fine.” well, really, they grip the shrink wrap too much and it’s hard to wrap with them and the kevlar burns off really fast, so i ended up losing them…somewhere… and i’ve been wrapping barehanded ever since.

it took me a while to get the hang of it. the first day i probably burned myself ten times. but i think i figured it out by the second day, so i’ve been ok since then… until yesterday.

ouch.

“PHP security holes have a name — quite often it was Stefan Esser who found and reported them. Now Esser has quit the PHP security team. He feels that his attempt to make PHP safer “from the inside” is futile. Basic security issues are not addressed sufficiently by the developers. Zeev Suraski, Zend’s CTO of course disagrees and urges Stefan to work with the PHP development team instead of working against it. But given the number of remote code execution holes in PHP apps this year, Esser might have a point. And he plans to continue his quest for security holes in PHP. Only that from now on, he will publish them after reasonable time — regardless if a patch is available or not.”

i wasn’t too happy with how long it took chemusa to get my laptop fixed and back to me. it happened at pretty much the worst time: the night before we left for choir tour. i couldn’t just ship it off; i had to get a RMA number. so i couldn’t sent it off until the Saturday after we got back from choir tour. so that was one week without a computer. next week was Thanksgiving. another week. but i got it back the following week. however, caleb g’s laptop went down about the same time, and he still hasn’t gotten his back. he did finally get a “replacement/loaner” (today) until they get his fixed. and caleb b’s laptop has been gone almost all semester. wow. i would be quire mad if it took them more than a month. so it looks like i got off pretty good.
